Bring music and dance to your students with a program that integrates dance/movement with language arts, social studies and character education. Teaching artist introduces students to dance and movement through hands-on, interactive experiences including warm-up exercises (stretching, isolations, coordination), floor progressions (flow of movement, combining steps, use of space), choreography (space, rhythm, energy, shapes). |
Based on multiple intelligences and
recent brain research this program
reinforces language arts concepts,
(directionality, sequencing, spatial
awareness and following directions)
through dance and movement. The dance/
movement curriculum is integrated with
poetry, literature and social studies.
The teaching artist and the students
create choreography related to the
curriculum. The residency culminates in
a student presentation for their peers,
family and community. This program is
an alternative to traditional teaching.
The overall objective is to use dance to
encourage students to be creative thinkers
and place the focus of movement as
a vehicle for communication and learning. |
